Bayer Leverkusen Favored Heading into Europa League Semi-Final First Leg at AS Roma
German Champions Aim for Away Advantage
AS Roma to Host Bundesliga Winners for First Leg of Semifinal Tie
In a highly anticipated clash, Bayer Leverkusen will travel to the Stadio Olimpico in Rome to face AS Roma in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League semi-finals on Thursday, April 27. The German champions enter the match as slight favorites, having won the Bundesliga title for the first time in 12 years this season.
Led by in-form striker Patrik Schick and experienced midfielder Xabi Alonso, Leverkusen will be looking to secure an away advantage in the first leg. However, AS Roma, under the guidance of former captain Daniele De Rossi, will be no pushovers at home.
The Italian side has enjoyed a resurgence under De Rossi, reaching the Europa League semi-finals for the first time since 2017. Roma will be counting on the goalscoring prowess of Tammy Abraham and the creativity of Nicolò Zaniolo to overcome Leverkusen.
The second leg of the semi-final tie will be played in Leverkusen on May 4, with the winner advancing to the final in Budapest on May 31.
