Pirates’ Tucupita Marcano Undergoes Successful ACL Surgery

Surgery Ends Season for Young Shortstop

Marcano Left Game Monday Night with Knee Injury

WEB PITTSBURGH -- Following an extensive examination and collaboration with experts in the medical field, the Pittsburgh Pirates have announced that infielder Tucupita Marcano underwent successful surgery on August 9 to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee. The surgery was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles, California.

Marcano, 22, suffered the injury in the fifth inning of Monday night's game against the San Diego Padres. He was placed on the 60-day injured list on Tuesday. The Pirates have since transferred Marcano to the 60-day IL, effectively ending his 2023 season.

Marcano was batting .274 with five home runs and 25 RBIs in 88 games this season. He was one of the Pirates' most promising young players and was expected to be a key part of their future.
