X Factor and G4 star Ben Thapa dies aged 42: Band pays emotional tribute to a 'great friend' after his 'sudden' death
X Factor and G4 star Ben Thapa has died at the age of 42, his bandmates have confirmed.
The singer, who was last seen on television screens during the X Factor: The Band edition of the show in 2019, died suddenly on Tuesday (January 31).
Posting on social media, G4 said: "It is with the deepest regret that we have to announce the very sad news that our friend and brother Ben has passed away suddenly." "
The world has lost an incredible singer, a wonderful friend, a loving father and a true character."
"We are devastated by this tragic loss and we extend our heartfelt condolences to all of his family and friends."
They added: "Ben's passion for music was unparalleled, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him."
Thapa, a classically-trained singer, rose to fame on the X Factor in 2004 as part of the group G4.
The quartet reached the final and released four studio albums before splitting in 2007.
In a statement, his former bandmates said: "Ben was a gifted singer with an extraordinary voice."
"He was a big part of our lives and we will miss him dearly."
Thapa returned to the X Factor in 2019 as part of the X Factor: The Band, where he was mentored by Nicole Scherzinger.
The group, which also included former The Voice UK contestant Anthony Russell, reached the semi-finals of the competition.
