Madame Web Taps Dakota Johnson for Title Role
Johnson Joins the Spider-Man Universe in Sony's Latest Spin-Off
Dakota Johnson will play Madame Web in Sony's upcoming superhero thriller titled "Madame Web." The film will follow Cassandra Webb, a young woman who gains the ability to see into the future after being bitten by a radioactive spider.
Johnson's Unique Take on the Character
In preparing for the role, Johnson collaborated with Claire Parker and the writing team of Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless to create a unique interpretation of Madame Web. The film will explore Cassandra's journey as she comes to terms with her newfound abilities and navigates the dangerous world of interdimensional travel.
"I'm incredibly excited to bring Madame Web to life on the big screen," Johnson said. "She's a captivating and complex character, and I can't wait to share her story with audiences around the world."
Supporting Cast and Release Date
Joining Johnson in the cast are Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, and Celeste O'Connor. The film is set to be directed by S.J. Clarkson from a screenplay she co-wrote with Parker, Sazama, and Sharpless.
Madame Web is scheduled to hit theaters on July 7, 2024.
